Since the legalization of same sex marriage last month, performer Cher has been overwhelmed with requests to sing at gay weddings nationwide.
According to Cher’s website, which hasn’t been updated since Christmas of 2014, Cher had to cancel a bunch of shows last year due to a viral infection. The singer was just gearing up to go back on tour, but changed her mind after getting countless wedding requests.
“I believe in life after love, and singing at weddings. Let’s do this chickadees!" the singer tweeted after getting these requests.
While the singer sporadically updates her website, she is very active on Twitter. She uses all the emojis and often reaches out to her fans for IT advice.
“They make me stronger!” Cher tweeted.
While Cher did have shows lined up this summer in Vegas, she’s not worried about disappointing her fans.
“Who do you think are at those shows?” Her publicist Jackie Greene said in an interview. “Pretty positive the same people who are at my client’s shows are either having or invited to the wedding that have asked Cher to perform at.”
This appears to be true since the singer hasn’t received any backlash since making this announcement. Cher as a performer or even as simply playing her music may seem a bit unorthodox for wedding. As her most popular songs like, “Believe,” “Stronger” and “If I Can Turn Back Time,” all appear to be about getting over break-ups.
“It’s less about the lyrics and more about what Cher stands for. She’s always been an idol and worshiped in the gay community and having her perform at weddings really helps celebrate that love has won,” explains Greene.
So who are these lucky lovebirds that are getting Cher to perform?
Dawson Smith and Clive Johnson are tying the knot this September and secured Cher for their reception. They plan on having their first dance to the singer’s hit song, “If I Could Turn Back Time,” as they feel like they’re constantly fighting but are confident that marriage will solve their issues.
“I tweeted at Cher asking her sing at our wedding, she tweeted back a thumbs up emoji, so I can only assume that means she’s confirmed,” said Smith.
Cher’s team says the singer is excited to celebrate love with the most important people of all, her fans. And would also like her fan base to know that she’s available for Mitzvahs and Funerals.
