Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has waded into the growing controversy between recording artist Kesha and her label Sony Music.
Kesha had accused her producer Dr. Luke of rape and sued to break her contract in order to avoid working directly with her rapist. A court today ruled in Sony’s favor - leaving the popular star in tears and social media abuzz with disgust.
In a phone interview with CNN’s Don Lemon tonight, Trump called in express his own outrage and promised the American people that he will change the system as President.
“Well Don I’ve been a huge fan of Kesha for a long time now,” he said. “And think it’s terrible what they’re doing to that poor girl.
“Think about this folks. Your producer assaults you. You producer rapes you. Your producer does all sorts of bad things to you. And you can’t get out of that contract?
“I mean what kind of a country is this? Who’s negotiating these deals?
“When her song ‘Your Love is My Drug” came out, it changed my life. Absolutely changed my life. For two whole days I stopped thinking about how Muslims and Mexicans were destroying this country. That's how talented this young woman is.
“She's touched tremendous amounts of people. Tremendous amounts of people have enjoyed her music. And now she is forced to work with this loser - this Dr. Luke character - who quite frankly is a disgrace and should be in prison right now.
“It’s all very sad. Very sad. I absolutely stand with Kesha. And lemmie tell you when I’m president we’re gonna get rid of these ridiculous contracts and do what is right. I'll free the artists from slavery, and put the rapists in jail."
